Brew coffee using cold water, not hot water. How to make coffee in a way that is different from the others. This coffee brew is very unique because it takes hours to extract the coffee. The taste given will also be very different when we brew using hot water.
Coffee Choice
Requires 2 very simple basic ingredients, ground coffee, and cold water. Of course, coffee will play a major role. So let’s start by choosing what kind of coffee beans “may” suit our taste buds.
I suggest choosing coffee beans with a medium roasting profile. If you use a light roasting profile, light-medium, the taste produced by your cold brew will be dominated by nutty flavors, sometimes there is a taste of raw peanuts, and other sensations of raw ingredients. Then let’s try to choose the most common coffee beans.
Robusta
Robusta coffee with any roasting profile is suitable to be an option. The light, light-medium, and medium profiles will give a mild, low sweetness, nutty, low bitter sensation. Perfect if you enjoy cold brew without adding any milk or sweetener. The dark roast profile is perfect if you want to add sweetener or fresh milk to your cold brew.
I live on the island of Java, Indonesia. The characteristic of Javanese Robusta coffee that I remember most is the taste of “Tamarindus indica”, a taste that I usually often encounter in Arabica coffee, I found it in Robusta coffee with a medium roast profile in my cold brew.
Arabica
Arabica coffee with Roasting light, light-medium, and medium profiles. The choice I most recommend if you want to enjoy coffee without any choice. I mostly enjoy Arabica from Java, which tends to have a spicy-hint taste. Similar to Robusta coffee, Arabica coffee in Java also has a more pronounced “Tamarindus indica” taste, medium acidity with high sweetness! I am increasingly curious to try Arabica coffee which is grown at a higher altitude than the mountain slopes on the island of Java.
House Blend Coffee
Arabica and Robusta coffee mix, why not? Of course, it is necessary to pay attention to the dose of each coffee bean that needs to be considered. The character and taste of each coffee bean used should complement each other, not overlap each other, and end up messing up the cold brew. Arabica coffee with its acidity, sweetness, and fruity or floral taste, can be complemented by the body and intensity of Robusta coffee.
