Microsoft has just launched its latest version of the cybersecurity software “Defender” for Windows, where this version is also available for macOS, iOS, and Android.
It will be available for customers who already have Microsoft 365 Personal and Family, the features will also vary depending on which platform is used.
The iOS and iPadOS versions of Microsoft Defender, for example, don’t have virus protection, but those platforms will offer a range of other protections such as protection against phishing links along with a dashboard that also includes notifications on other devices.
On the Android platform, this software will have the ability for antivirus protection and scanning for malicious applications. The software also allows users to get protection against phishing links.
While in Windows, Microsoft Defender will work more as a Dashboard than replace the function of the Windows Security application. The Defender dashboard will allow users to view installed antivirus protection such as Norton, McAfee, or other brands, and manage and view security protections across all connected devices.
The defender also includes security alert notifications and tips for several devices available for Windows and macOS.
“Expanding our security portfolio with Microsoft Defender for individuals is a natural and exciting development in our journey as a security company,” said Vasu Jakkal, vice president of security firm Microsoft. “This is just the beginning. As we hope, we will continue to bring more shared protection under one dashboard, including features such as identity theft protection and secure online connections.”
