Meta Platforms Incorporated, Facebook’s parent company, is exploring the potential of printing a digital currency that will be named Zuck Bucks. Later, digital money can be used to make transactions on Metaverse.
This corporate action is considered to ignore the efforts of the company created by Mark Zuckerberg which has formed a digital currency called Diem, which has received strong reactions from world financial regulators.
However, Mark Zuckerberg stated that digital finance is an important instrument to support e-commerce in the immersive world, namely the Metaverse.
“We continue to consider new product innovations for people, businesses, and creators. As a company, we are focused on building the Metaverse, including payment systems and financial services,” said a Meta Spokesperson, as quoted by AFP, Thursday (7/4).
Even so, Meta did not disclose detailed information about what efforts the company was making.
Zuck Bucks are projected in the form of digital tokens that can be used to make online transactions, such as in video games.
However, this innovation is not the first time in the world. Several well-known games such as Fortnite and Roblox have used similar tokens to facilitate users to make transactions in their games.
The tokens can also be given by developers to influencers or creators who can attract more fans to the game.
On the other hand, this Meta step is considered a form of income diversification, which has so far been too dependent on online ad impressions.
